The Digital Rights Workshop held by Amnesty International in Odera Akang’o Campus.

Amnesty International- Maseno University chapter was privileged to host a Digital Rights awareness Workshop that was conducted in Odera Akang’o Campus. The club, which is basically, a chapter of the larger Amnesty International, is a human rights awareness and advocacy circle that seeks to improve consciousness on issues surrounding human rights.
On that fateful day, both its active members and the club’s secretariat represented the club. The secretariat of the club constitutes of three members who are all students of Maseno University. The secretariat includes Jeff Ouma- Chairperson, Priscilla Kavekhe- Finance Lead and Samuel Oduor- Communications Lead.

During the workshop, various data and digital rights awareness tools including education on the constitution of Kenya articles surrounding data privacy, were shared. The club got the privilege of getting a team of trainers from the larger umbrella of Amnesty International. 
The Digital Rights and Privacy training provided a valuable opportunity for participants to deepen their knowledge of digital rights issues and privacy concerns. The sessions led by Aurelia Miheso and Sharlene Muthuri offered valuable insights and practical strategies for advocating for online freedoms and safer internet environments. 
 

During the training, participants had the opportunity to engage in a Mentimeter an online speed and accuracy challenge, enhancing their understanding of the topics covered. Winners of the challenge were rewarded with Amnesty t-shirts and notebooks, encouraging active participation and learning.
The training, which had all its participants drawn from the students of Maseno University, will effectively promote utility of digital tools and access to internet rights and freedoms while surfing online. The session is also in line with the IT programs offered in all courses done in Maseno University.
